Meet the Great Flood Team: Logan Spencer

We’ve been so caught up in our expansion, canning, and distribution that we completely forgot to keep you up-to-date on the great folks we have slinging beers over at our taproom. Fortunately for you, we’re back stronger than ever with a “Meet the Great Flood Team” feature on one of our newer (but equally legendary) bartenders, Logan Spencer.

Logan moved to Louisville from Henderson, KY, in 2012 to study business administration and play soccer for Spalding University. When he came to Louisville, his sister told him he needed to check out the brewery, and Logan immediately fell in love with it. Once he began looking for a second job, we’d made our way to the top of his list, and he reached out to Vince. Despite introducing himself at the taproom, running into him at a few beer festivals, and emailing him a handful of times, Logan didn’t get a reply. Fortunately, Vince caved about six months later and offered him an interview, which we can only assume went well. Kapow.

As much as we love having him around, Logan’s a pretty busy guy. In addition to working for us, he also works full-time over at Kindred Healthcare, and, on top of everything, he’s completing on his MBA over at Webster University. Fortunate for us, despite how busy he is, Logan’s a big fan of craft beer. “I like the environment,” he said. “The people are all fantastic, especially here. You have a nice, decent crowd that’s really awesome and down to earth. It’s a really nice setting.” Logan’s a social person, too, so the community aspect — getting to talk with and know everyone who comes in — is a great appeal as well. For him, these interests came together at this year’s Christmas bottle share with the Flood Liars Club, where he was able to take some time away from the bar, try some new beers, and just chat it up with the mug club. His favorite memory, though? A trivia night last December, when the power line outside snapped in half, caught fire, and started swinging in front of the doorway (leaving the brewery powerless). “It was just a crazy night,” he said. “There weren’t a ton of people left, and the power had gone out, so we just had a little party in the dark.”

Outside of work, Logan keeps active as an avid camper, hiker, and rock climber. He plans on wrapping up his MBA at Webster on May 20th, too, at which point he’s packing up and heading across Europe for a little more than a month. Upon coming back, he plans to move to Denver, CO (even though we’d really like him to stay here and continue working with us).

Lightning Round!

As cool as getting to know Logan is, let’s see how he responded to the ol’ lightning round questions:

What’s your favorite girl scout cookie?

Thin Mints after they’re frozen.

If you were one Great Flood beer, which one would you be?

Coffee Maple Porter. I was a fan of the coffee porter, but I fell in love with it when they added the maple. I have a really big sweet tooth.

What’s your favorite breakfast food?

Eggs. Over easy.

If you could have any musical artist write the soundtrack of your life, who would it be?

GRiZ. He’s one of my favorite artists. I’ve been to six of his shows, and they’ve all been amazing.

What’s your favorite movie?

I really don’t have a favorite. It depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I grew up with three sisters, so I can do anything from Lifetime movies to dark, serious movies like The Dark Knight or Silence of the Lambs.
