Let’s face it. John Timmons is pretty much a Louisville legend.
As the founder of ear X-tacy, a nation-wide symbol of independent record stores, John stands for a lot of what we love most about our town: its vibrancy, its commitment to the unique, and its openness to encouraging local businesses to prosper. For 26 years, it was the place in Louisville to buy, watch, and support local music. From its diverse album selection to its in-house performances, it was pretty much a music lover’s dream.
Even though ear X-tacy’s no longer open, the precedent set by it and other like-minded local businesses paved the way for folks like us to fulfill our dreams and contribute to Louisville’s weird, independent, and locally-focused business scene. Simply put, ear X-tacy’s contribution to this city left an immeasurable impact, and we’re thankful to John for everything he’s done.
All of that being said, when the opportunity came available for us to collaborate with John on a beer for Brewfest, we were pretty thrilled. The beer – aptly named “beer X-tacy” – was concocted with John to celebrate the eclectic history of the Highlands and ear X-tacy itself. John started the “keep Louisville weird” campaign, and this beer speaks to just that. Using passionfruit, citra hops, caramel malt flavors, and just a little bit of sweetness, it’s a lighter, flavorful beer that we think speaks to the diversity of Louisville’s businesses, population, and culture.
beer X-tacy Release
beer X-tacy comes out today, September 23rd, at LIBA’s 8th annual Brewfest. Tickets are still available for the event, which features dozens of local independent brewers, wineries, bourbon distillers, and food vendors. We’ll be doing a separate release in our taproom the following day, September 24th. We’ll even have a limited number of beer X-tacy stickers and shirts available for purchase on a first-come, first served basis.
